Understand the Materials

One tile category. Two distinct material profiles.

Ceramic and porcelain tiles can share similar colours, patterns and surface effects, but their bodies and performance characteristics are not identical. The right choice depends on where the tile will be installed, the expected traffic, exposure to moisture, required slip performance and the manufacturer’s stated area of use.

Ceramic Tile

Practical, expressive and highly versatile.

Ceramic tile is made from clay materials that are shaped and fired, and many products receive a glazed surface for colour, pattern and protection. It is widely used for interior walls and, where the product is rated accordingly, selected residential floor applications.

Often easier to cut and work with during installation, making it a practical option for detailed wall layouts and renovation projects.
Porcelain Tile

Dense construction for demanding applications.

Porcelain is an impervious ceramic tile defined by a water absorption rate of 0.5% or less. Its dense body makes it a strong candidate for many floor, wet-area and higher-traffic applications when the specific tile is approved for that use.

Available in glazed and unglazed forms; the surface finish influences cleaning, appearance and slip characteristics.
Important: “Porcelain” does not automatically mean every product is suitable for every exterior, pool, wet-area or commercial installation. Always confirm the manufacturer’s technical rating, slip classification, installation system and stated area of use.
Choose the Visual Direction

Surface character for every kind of space.

Modern manufacturing allows ceramic and porcelain tiles to reproduce natural materials, architectural textures and decorative patterns while retaining the practical advantages of a tiled surface.

Select by Application

Start with where the tile needs to perform.

Appearance matters, but specification comes first. Tile selection should account for traffic, moisture, cleaning, slip resistance, substrate condition and the installation materials required for the chosen format.

Residential

Living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms and outdoor areas.

Check substrate flatness and fixing method

Commercial

Retail, offices, restaurants and other high-use environments.

Confirm floor rating and traffic suitability

Hospitality

Hotels, serviced residences and experience-led spaces.

Finish Changes the Experience

Light, texture and touch all begin at the surface.

Two tiles with the same colour can behave very differently once finish, texture and lighting are considered. Review physical samples under realistic light before confirming a final selection.

M

Matt

A lower-reflection appearance suited to calm, contemporary interiors; slip performance still varies by product.

P

Polished

A reflective surface that emphasises colour and veining, often chosen for refined interior spaces.

T

Textured

Adds tactile depth and may support higher-grip requirements when the specific product carries the appropriate rating.

G

Glazed

A fired surface layer that provides colour and pattern while generally making the tile easier to clean.
